Something Good.

[et_pb_section admin_label="section"][et_pb_row admin_label="row"][et_pb_column type="4_4"][et_pb_text admin_label="Text"] You guys, this week has flown by - I can't believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve! It's been a crazy week to say the least! I wanted to write more, spend some time reflecting on the year and unfortunately, time was not on my side with all of the things I had to get accomplished before heading to Florida to spend the holiday with family. It's the time of year when nostalgia kicks in, cards arrive from all over with pictures of growing children on them. I like to keep these cards and compare them over the years, to watch the growth of families, accomplishments of kids. Today we got to spend some time with great friends, like we did when we were all neighbors years ago. Once there were 3 boys who became friends on a playground in Brooklyn, they were all around 2 years old...that was 8 years ago, there are more kids in the mix now and we're no longer all in the same city, but we do make time to see each other and it warms my heart to know that they still have fun when we're together. It's days like today that I'm truly grateful for. The effort to make even a quick visit happen. The laughter that rings through the house, the new puppy that everyone falls in love with, the catch up stories around the kitchen table. It's this stuff that really matters. The family, the friends, the fun. We should remember this everyday, not just around the holidays.

I have 2 good friends who over this last week lost loved ones suddenly. No goodbyes, only phone calls bearing the awful news. My heart is heavy for them, for their sorrow and their pain. My one friend summed it up perfectly by saying it's so fucking unfair...and you know what? It is. It sucks. It's one of the hardest things to have to go through, especially without warning. We take so much for granted on a daily basis. Health, freedom, prosperity, relationships. We say our prayers at night and count our blessings, but are we TRULY thankful? Truly grateful for it all? I wonder...

I want to keep it in check. To make sure my kids know how fortunate they are to have loving parents, adoring families and friends. To have their health and a roof over their head and food on their tables. To understand that every day is a gift. And so that's why every night at bedtime, we talk about something good that happened during their day. It can be anything but they can't go to sleep without acknowledging something. Today the good stuff was meeting our friend's new puppy, playing with old friends and making snowmen in school out of socks. I would say that's a very good day.

On this eve of the Eve of Christmas - what was something good that happened to you today?
